Schloss Neuschwanstein: Grown Up Disney

“Why do we have to grow up? I know more adults who have the children’s approach to life. They’re people who don’t give a hang what the Joneses do. You see them at Disneyland every time you go there. They are not afraid to be delighted with simple pleasures, and they have a degree of contentment with what life has brought – sometimes it isn’t much, either.” — Walt Disney

Schloss Neuschwanstein is a 19th-century Gothic Revival palace on top of a hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Munich, Germany. The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the king, but it was opened to the public after his death in 1886. Lots of movies were being shot here and was also the inspiration for Disneyland’s Castle.

We are supposed to go to a concentration camp in Munich, but if we chose to do this, Basti and Isi will not join us, because they said it’s really horrible. I would understand how it feels for them to see and hear over and over again of what the Germans did in the past with the Jews or other victims of the war. Maybe for them, it is already too much to keep on reminding them about that, they are sorry for what happened and life for them must move on.

So, I am glad that we just chose to go to Schloss Neuschwanstein! The scenery along the way was awesome and the castle itself! It’s like going to Disneyland, but the castle is for real and not just a facade. It is just a wonderful experience to become a child again, where life then was much simpler…

Growing up is never easy. You tend to hold on to things that were. Growing up is not just only being serious about everything in life and not wanting to act like a child again. It is okay to be childlike but not to act childish.

For me growing up is being able to be delighted with what the present is offering and not dwelling on the mistakes done in the past. It’s time to let go of what had been, and look ahead to what would be.
Forgiveness is the highest form of maturity or growing up, so whatever the others have done wrongly in the past, they still deserve to be forgiven as our God forgives us too 🙂
