The Call – Regina Spektor

Because I love weird voices, I was attracted to Regina Spektor‘s music when I first heard her with her song “Samson”. Her genre is called anti-folk which is popular in New York, but what made her voice distinctive is her unusual use of pronouncing words differently, unusual noises from her lips, and exaggerated use of her vocal range, making her sound playful yet artistic.

I also like her songwriting style—very eclectic and poetic. Sometimes you’d think it’s a lovesong but then you’ll be surprised that it has a different meaning, or was written not in that context.
